New LABOR office in the Canary Islands, an excellence region in renewable energies

INNOVA’s applied research and engineering laboratory, LABOR, has opened a new office situated in Santa Cruz, Tenerife, in the Canary Islands. The Canary Islands archipelago has become in recent years a centre of excellence for renewable energies and is one of the Spanish regions which has undergone the greatest increases in R&D costs over the last few years mainly through the development of a Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and large scale exploitation programme – mainly solar and wind resources.

The Canary Islands’ authorities have developed measures for a progressive 100% supply coming from Renewable Energy Sources. The first practical and efficient output of these policies is the case of El Hierro, the smallest island of the Canaries, staging one of the most ambitious island projects regarding energy self-sufficiency through the use of renewable energies. Considered as one of the most audacious actions of the strategy established in the European Commission White Paper on Renewable Energies, the project is already a reference for other islands.

Thanks to this new location, Labor will benefit from strong research and technological collaboration with local actors and hands-on institutions in the field of renewable energies.
